讲座主题：The Ethics of Punishment

讲座概要：Every society faces the problem of crime and must build acriminal justice system to prevent and deter crimes. How should we think aboutthis task? What normative and empirical considerations are relevant todesigning such a system? One prominent idea, shared by consequentialist andcontractualist thinkers, is that the system should be designed to minimize harmoverall, that is, the harm done by criminals plus the harm done by the criminaljustice system itself. But this idea is not without its problems...

主讲人简介：Thomas Pogge教授，师从约翰·罗尔斯，1983年在哈佛大学获得哲学博士学位。目前为美国耶鲁大学（Yale University）哲学和国际事务雷特纳讲座讲授和全球正义研究中心主任（2008-），挪威奥斯陆大学（OsloUniversity）自然心灵研究中心研究主任（2007-），英国中央兰开夏大学（University of Central Lancashire）职业道德中心政治哲学教授（2007-），挪威科学院院士（1996-）等。Pogge教授还是众多学术组织的成员，并担任很多著名学术杂志的编辑委员会委员。研究方向为伦理学、社会哲学和政治哲学，尤其关注世界贫困人口及其公共健康、非法经济流、气候变暖等全球正义问题。
