Bioethicist Guobin Cheng of Southeast University will join a #CRISPRcon2019 panel exploring how global leaders think about their roles in gene editing research, investment & policy decisions.

A faculty of Southeast University School of Humanities, Dr. Cheng Guobin is invited to join CRISPRcon’s final panel on June 21. Here are the panel’s working title and description: With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Globalization, Governance and Power Global governance and decision-making structures consider international norms, ethics, trade, policy and more in the context of diverse cultures and communities. Yet certain institutions have significant power, capital and influence when it comes to gene editing advancements and decisions. This panel will consider how those institutions think about their responsibility and work at a global scale across countries and cultures to shape the future of gene editing.

What is CRISPRcon?

The scientific community has handed the world an incredible tool: the ability to make precise edits to the DNA in living cells. These technologies could allow us to transform our food, health and ecological systems. They also raise important questions about risks, benefits, ethics, equity and more.

CRISPRcon is a program of Keystone Policy Center, a nonadvocacy nonprofit based in the U.S. CRISPRcon creates a unique forum in which a broad selection of diverse voices come together to discuss the future of CRISPR and related gene editing technologies across a variety of applications in agriculture, health, conservation and more.

CRISPRcon 2019:Conversations on Science, Society & the Future of Gene Editing will be hosted by Wageningen University and Research in Netherland.
